Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Egypt was $947,886,998, down 24.50% ($307,572,575) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $810,178,003, down 27.97% ($314,533,080) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $137,708,995, up 5.32% ($6,960,505) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $672,469,008, a 32.34% decrease ($321,493,585) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Egypt was Russia’s 32nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 18th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7374% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.2932% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 26th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 18th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9722% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.8353% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3046% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3653% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 57.07% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (36.78% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.60% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.33% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 16.08% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (14.19% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.17% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (7.51% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.39% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (0.93% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.53% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (5.00% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $127,649,862;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $52,228,890;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,604,117.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $49,534,794;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $26,198,704;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $18,838,104;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $9,765,566;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $6,788,277;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $3,681,916;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,751,051.

Russia’s Imports from Egypt

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 8.64% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (9.54% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.85% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (4.70% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.05% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (0.60% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
