Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Vietnam totaled $984,990,366, up 23.77% ($189,141,947) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $310,090,589, up 16.42% ($43,736,804) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $674,899,777, up 27.46% ($145,405,143) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $364,809,188, a 38.64% increase ($101,668,339) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Vietnam was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 26th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7662% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8198% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 43rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 44th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3721% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4346% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 14th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 17th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4926% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.4792% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 43.37% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (2.57% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 17.65% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (33.96% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.32% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (25.49% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.56% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (21.10% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.26% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (12.97% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $7,240,979;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $2,210,069;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,019,719;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,787,530.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
