Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Canada totaled $439,141,067, up 59.97% ($164,622,288) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $236,841,405, up 94.34% ($114,974,105) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $202,299,662, up 32.52% ($49,648,183) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Canada went from a deficit of $30,784,179 in the 3rd quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $34,541,743 in the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Canada was Russia’s 48th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 56th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3004% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2252% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 52nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 65th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2775% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1694% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 41st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 44th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3326% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3054% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 59.33% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (7.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.85% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (28.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.64% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (38.86% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
