Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $657,867,854, up 50.34% ($220,284,010) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $367,510,953, up 29.98% ($84,763,532) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $290,356,901, up 87.52% ($135,520,478) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $77,154,052, a 39.68% decrease ($50,756,946) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 47th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4500% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3589% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 42nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 43rd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4305% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3930% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 33rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 43rd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4773% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3098% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 81.08% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (77.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.12% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (8.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.61% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (8.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.62% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.86% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.59% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.54% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (3.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $56,904,605;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $22,710,358;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $10,443,633;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $9,946,790;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,075,379.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $10,931,560;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $5,050,000;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,511,785;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,333,458.

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.00% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (0.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
