Russia’s Trade with South Africa

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with South Africa totaled $283,003,778, up 7.53% ($19,805,827) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $87,254,557, up 10.25% ($8,112,143) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $195,749,221, up 6.35% ($11,693,684) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $108,494,664, a 3.41% increase ($3,581,541) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

South Africa was Russia’s 60th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 57th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1936% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2159% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

South Africa was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1022% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1100% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

South Africa was Russia’s 42nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 41st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3218% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3683% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.90% of Russia’s total exports to South Africa (7.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.17% of Russia’s total exports to South Africa (2.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $265,449.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to South Africa in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $3,411,206;
