Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka
In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $104,836,246, up 11.64% ($10,933,492) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.
Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $25,449,766, up 48.96% ($8,365,069) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.
Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $79,386,480, up 3.34% ($2,568,423) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.
Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $53,936,714, a 9.70% decrease ($5,796,646) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.
Sri Lanka was Russia’s 80th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 82nd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0717% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0770% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
Sri Lanka was Russia’s 97th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 104th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0298% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0237% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
Sri Lanka was Russia’s 60th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 57th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1305% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1537% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka
The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.41% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (51.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.24% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (22.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.04% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.66% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (12.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.50% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

- Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $233,887;
- Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $141,532.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
