Russia’s Trade with Cuba

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Cuba was $54,331,213, down 40.77% ($37,392,136) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $51,929,165, down 41.50% ($36,839,297) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $2,402,048, down 18.71% ($552,839) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $49,527,117, a 42.29% decrease ($36,286,458) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Cuba was Russia’s 98th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 88th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0325% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0673% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Cuba was Russia’s 85th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 75th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0505% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1059% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Cuba was Russia’s 115th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 110th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0037% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0056% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Cuba

The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 82.65% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (85.94% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.90% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (1.06% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.30% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (0.89% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.24% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (2.81% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.21% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (0.63% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.12% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (6.42% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $17,679,074;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $1,507,839;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $916,273;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $758,866;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $695,398;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $308,783.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $47,190,906;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $5,641,041;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,835,609;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $651,170;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $522,069;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $369,344;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $328,927;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $175,058.
