Russia’s Trade with Mexico
In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $714,321,297, up 52.55% ($246,061,270) from the 4th quarter of 2016.
Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $446,463,549, up 51.96% ($152,668,729) from the 4th quarter of 2016.
Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $267,857,748, up 53.53% ($93,392,541) from the 4th quarter of 2016.
Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $178,605,801, a 49.67% increase ($59,276,188) over the 4th quarter of 2016.
Mexico was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 49th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4274% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3436% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
Mexico was Russia’s 44th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 46th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4340% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3504% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 44th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4167% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3327% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
Russia’s Exports to Mexico
The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 83.08% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (78.59% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.88% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (7.03% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.86% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (6.49% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.82% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (3.64% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.79% in the 4th quarter of 2016);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $147,876,846;
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $11,045,944;
- Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $7,153,569;
- Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,830,493.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $8,376,419;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $4,178,537;
- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $3,917,969;
- Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $2,455,479;
