Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Norway was $401,609,985, down 22.78% ($118,496,354) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $265,567,803, up 28.29% ($58,559,684) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $136,042,182, down 56.55% ($177,056,038) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Norway went from a deficit of $106,090,101 in the 4th quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $129,525,621 in the 4th quarter of 2017.

Norway was Russia’s 57th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 46th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2403% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3817% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 56th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 54th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2582% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2469% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 56th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 32nd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2116% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.5972% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 55.61% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (50.50% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.42% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (32.09% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.98% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.16% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.41% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (4.51% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.95% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.58% in the 4th quarter of 2016);

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $27,963,617;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $3,691,622;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,643,762;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $3,131,088;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,153,700;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,862,930.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $9,148,619;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $2,127,247;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $2,120,086;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $1,638,139;
