Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $248,595,463, up 171.67% ($157,087,577) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $213,257,118, up 284.05% ($157,728,797) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $35,338,345, down 1.78% ($641,220) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $177,918,773, a 810.13% increase ($158,370,017) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 68th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 89th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1487% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0672% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 80th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2073% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0662% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 79th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 75th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0550% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0686% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 62.08% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (61.62% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.08% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.24% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.61% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (21.29% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.19% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (9.59% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.55% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (2.04% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.20% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (3.20% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $71,871,207;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $35,724,555;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $14,837,948;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $7,642,101;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $6,771,807;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $4,486,928;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $3,815,507;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $2,310,024;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,932,850.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $662,748.
