Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Sweden was $1,120,965,030, down 2.16% ($24,722,996) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $502,887,164, down 25.34% ($170,684,406) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $618,077,866, up 30.92% ($145,961,410) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Sweden went from a surplus of $201,455,114 in the 4th quarter of 2016, to a deficit of $115,190,702 in the 4th quarter of 2017.

Sweden was Russia’s 35th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 28th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6707% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8408% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 41st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 28th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4889% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.8034% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 26th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 28th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9615% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.9004% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 69.17% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (67.25% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.04% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (25.22% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.08% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.56% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.29% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.81% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (0.60% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $3,980,851;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,669,321;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $3,386,908;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,111,032.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $105,107,370;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $75,224,294;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $4,212,670;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,553,176.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.21% of Russia’s total imports from Sweden (23.14% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
