Russia’s Trade with Ukraine

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Ukraine totaled $3,930,933,115, up 30.78% ($925,253,031) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $2,506,715,335, up 37.53% ($684,051,704) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $1,424,217,780, up 20.39% ($241,201,327) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $1,082,497,555, a 69.23% increase ($442,850,377) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Ukraine was Russia’s 13th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.3518% of Russia’s total trade (up from 2.2057% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Ukraine was Russia’s 13th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 14th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.4369% of Russia’s total exports (up from 2.1741% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Ukraine was Russia’s 9th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.2156% of Russia’s total imports (down from 2.2563% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Ukraine

The major share of Russian exports to Ukraine in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 38.74% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (31.49% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.11% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (24.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 16.97% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (20.62% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.62% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (9.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.39% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (6.97% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
