Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia
In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $208,819,693, up 68.09% ($84,587,510) from the 1st quarter of 2017.
Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $146,743,991, up 69.47% ($60,152,031) from the 1st quarter of 2017.
Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $62,075,702, up 64.92% ($24,435,479) from the 1st quarter of 2017.
Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $84,668,289, a 72.96% increase ($35,716,552) over the 1st quarter of 2017.
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 67th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 76th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1325% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0966% in the 1st quarter of 2017).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 64th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 70th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1424% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1039% in the 1st quarter of 2017).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 67th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 73rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1137% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0832% in the 1st quarter of 2017).
Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia
The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 43.95% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (20.17% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.84% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (35.68% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.43% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (18.85% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.95% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (9.30% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.82% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (13.84% in the 1st quarter of 2017).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $34,548,927;
- Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $8,495,200;
- Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $3,403,211;
- Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,765,429;
- Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $886,982;
- Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $538,230.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2018 over the 1st quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $13,669,818;
- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $10,779,571;
- Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $3,553,193;
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $2,562,313;
- Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $2,311,301;
- Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,050,224;
- Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $761,105.
