Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Chile totaled $303,088,966, up 55.96% ($108,747,840) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $51,441,444, up 203.53% ($34,493,671) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $251,647,522, up 41.86% ($74,254,169) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $200,206,078, a 24.78% increase ($39,760,498) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Chile was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 68th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1761% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1329% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Chile was Russia’s 91st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 105th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0458% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0199% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Chile was Russia’s 38th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 46th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4203% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2916% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 66.54% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (36.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.11% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (33.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.89% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (18.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.58% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (5.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.95% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $28,001,066;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,879,381;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,853,829;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,091,497;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $539,984;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $532,359;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $523,342;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $338,117;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $328,261.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $435,342;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $194,780;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $172,299.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 87.23% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (87.96% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.70% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (1.97% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.12% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (3.32% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
