Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $107,824,414, up 5.38% ($5,506,058) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $70,997,082, up 2.26% ($1,570,595) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $36,827,332, up 11.96% ($3,935,463) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $34,169,750, a 6.47% decrease ($2,364,868) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Kenya was Russia’s 84th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 81st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0627% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0700% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 83rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 78th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0633% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0813% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 80th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 77th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0615% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0541% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 86.22% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (82.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.81% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (3.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,444,881;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $386,442.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $3,205,515;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,666,868;
