Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Mongolia totaled $376,000,832, up 9.45% ($32,463,368) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $365,350,182, up 9.97% ($33,134,367) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $10,650,650, down 5.93% ($670,999) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $354,699,532, a 10.53% increase ($33,805,366) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Mongolia was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 55th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2185% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2350% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Mongolia was Russia’s 44th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 45th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3256% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3892% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Mongolia was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 94th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0178% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0186% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 64.61% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (58.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.13% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (11.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.81% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (8.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.43% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (13.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.40% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (5.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $42,922,359;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $8,270,464;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $5,185,071;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $1,392,923.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $13,244,900;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $6,991,840;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $6,625,318;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $2,636,557.
