Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $86,458,493, down 17.53% ($18,377,753) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $12,608,033, down 50.46% ($12,841,733) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $73,850,460, down 6.97% ($5,536,020) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $61,242,427, a 13.54% increase ($7,305,713) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 88th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 80th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0502% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0717% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 115th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 97th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0112% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0298% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 60th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1233% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1305% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.72% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (71.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $511,305;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $116,270;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $78,568;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $40,740.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 39.91% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (38.61% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
