Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia
In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $283,372,701, up 13.99% ($34,777,238) from the 4th quarter of 2017.
Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $209,902,330, down 1.57% ($3,354,788) from the 4th quarter of 2017.
Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $73,470,371, up 107.91% ($38,132,026) from the 4th quarter of 2017.
Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 was $136,431,959, a 23.32% decrease ($41,486,814) over the 4th quarter of 2017.
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 67th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 68th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1517% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1487% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 65th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 60th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1686% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2073% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 79th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1178% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0550% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia
The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 57.42% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (62.08% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 22.61% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (17.08% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.67% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.55% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.81% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (4.19% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.10% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (9.61% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.20% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $11,035,642;
- Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $10,405,901;
- Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $3,920,243;
- Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $3,733,909;
- Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,331,665.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $9,029,100;
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $6,064,728;
- Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $2,719,321;
- Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $2,676,672;
- Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,335,580;
- Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $1,763,764;
- Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $1,602,557;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,293,330;
