Russia’s Trade with Venezuela

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Venezuela was $19,141,133, down 12.38% ($2,704,104) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $18,647,505, down 13.47% ($2,904,058) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $493,628, up 68.09% ($199,954) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $18,153,877, a 14.60% decrease ($3,104,012) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Venezuela was Russia’s 120th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 118th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0122% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0139% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Venezuela was Russia’s 105th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 103rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0179% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0209% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Venezuela was Russia’s 137th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 143rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0009% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0005% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Venezuela

The major share of Russian exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 87.65% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (70.06% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.10% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.48% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (13.33% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.39% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (15.05% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.87% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (1.15% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,510,081;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,271,052;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $99,441;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $87,294;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $73,604.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,131,420;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,605,251;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $85,388.

Russia’s Imports from Venezuela

The major share of Russian imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.01% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (99.59% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $135,062;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - an increase of $46,800;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $17,097;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,632.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
