Russia’s Trade with Iran

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Iran totaled $572,411,359, up 21.94% ($102,991,931) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Iran in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $431,967,329, up 30.09% ($99,917,414) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Iran in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $140,444,030, up 2.24% ($3,074,517) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iran in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $291,523,299, a 49.74% increase ($96,842,897) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Iran was Russia’s 44th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 51st in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3576% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2747% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Iran was Russia’s 40th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 47th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4287% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3013% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Iran was Russia’s 51st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 54th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2367% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2263% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Iran

The major share of Russian exports to Iran in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 85.14% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (59.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.54% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (12.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.70% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (18.50% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.66% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (2.56% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.20% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (6.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $20,358,351;

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $6,600,200;
