Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh totaled $545,523,944, up 39.72% ($155,082,485) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $284,752,690, up 70.89% ($118,119,730) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $260,771,254, up 16.52% ($36,962,755) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Bangladesh went from a deficit of $57,175,539 in the 3rd quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $23,981,436 in the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Bangladesh was Russia’s 49th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 51st in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3289% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2269% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 51st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 68th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2756% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1485% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 38th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 43rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4169% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3738% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh

The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 39.75% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (70.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.76% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (1.27% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.85% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (3.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.95% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (16.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.79% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (1.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $4,379,500;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,821,345;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $2,697,039;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,501,531;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $1,389,827;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $1,010,621.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $23,226,929;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $6,123,586;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,561,097;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,222,270;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $1,147,777;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $1,095,881.
