Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,325,591,074, up 22.00% ($239,038,953) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $810,761,047, up 67.72% ($327,372,013) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $514,830,027, down 14.64% ($88,333,060) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Brazil went from a deficit of $119,774,053 in the 3rd quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $295,931,020 in the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Brazil was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 33rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7992% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6315% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 29th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 42nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7847% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4308% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 26th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 22nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.8231% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0074% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 81.76% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (84.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.04% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (9.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.35% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.37% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.38% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.07% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.08% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $255,543,470;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $64,425,560;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $5,202,966;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $4,829,305;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,658,744;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $2,619,387.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $6,543,666;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $3,333,159.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 66.04% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (49.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.56% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (12.91% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.74% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.79% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (20.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
