Russia’s Trade with Ethiopia

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ethiopia was $18,037,675, down 42.47% ($13,316,315) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ethiopia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $9,605,327, down 62.96% ($16,329,159) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ethiopia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $8,432,348, up 55.59% ($3,012,844) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ethiopia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $1,172,979, a 94.28% decrease ($19,342,003) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Ethiopia was Russia’s 133rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 114th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0109% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0182% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Ethiopia was Russia’s 126th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 102nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0093% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0231% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Ethiopia was Russia’s 99th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 104th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0135% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0091% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $39,370.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ethiopia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $11,098,822;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,814,973;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,589,796;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $590,687;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $419,800;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $103,517;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $45,990.

Russia’s Imports from Ethiopia

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 91.96% of Russia’s total imports from Ethiopia (90.74% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 8.03% of Russia’s total imports from Ethiopia (8.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
