Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $21,165,309, up 71.44% ($8,819,362) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $5,803,469, up 66.57% ($2,319,448) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $15,361,840, up 73.35% ($6,499,914) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $9,558,371, a 77.73% increase ($4,180,466) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Iceland was Russia’s 127th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 133rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0128% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0072% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Iceland was Russia’s 135th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 140th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0056% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0031% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Iceland was Russia’s 94th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 98th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0246% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0148% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 54.25% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (40.27% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 24.42% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (6.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.69% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (22.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 5.43% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (0.20% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.99% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (11.08% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.01% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (4.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (14.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,925,428;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,194,992;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $179,503;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $126,101;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $74,092.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $450,615;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $260,448;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $180,257;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $147,102;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $74,668;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $21,450;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $21,256.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 82.65% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (36.91% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.46% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (27.35% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.38% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (27.92% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.21% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (6.80% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iceland in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $10,146,488;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $303,392;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $212,503;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $163,079;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $122,119;

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $650,741;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $412,515;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $106,575;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $70,982.
