Russia’s Trade with Syria

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Syria was $71,936,943, down 6.01% ($4,596,708) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $70,266,820, down 7.95% ($6,068,604) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $1,670,123, up 742.53% ($1,471,896) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $68,596,697, a 9.90% decrease ($7,540,500) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Syria was Russia’s 93rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 90th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0434% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0445% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Syria was Russia’s 83rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 82nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0680% of Russia’s total exports (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Syria was Russia’s 126th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 142nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0027% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0003% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Syria

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.25% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (1.20% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 18.24% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (20.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.82% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (1.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.70% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (4.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,976,112;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $8,769,996;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $2,508,774;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $272,778;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $271,651.
