Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Tanzania was $66,811,666, down 12.20% ($9,281,888) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $59,121,148, up 11.96% ($6,316,458) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $7,690,518, down 66.98% ($15,598,346) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $51,430,630, a 74.25% increase ($21,914,804) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Tanzania was Russia’s 97th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 91st in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0403% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0442% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Tanzania was Russia’s 88th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 90th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0572% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0471% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Tanzania was Russia’s 100th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 86th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0123% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0389% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 86.63% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (90.84% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.86% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (5.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.31% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (2.28% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.89% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (1.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,963,006;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,386,856;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $614,741;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $586,827;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $281,574.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $630,528.

Russia’s Imports from Tanzania

The major share of Russian imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.94% of Russia’s total imports from Tanzania (100.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $160,146.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $15,232,759;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $284,875;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $224,147;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $28,153.
