Russia’s Trade with Afghanistan
In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Afghanistan totaled $42,976,222, up 21.60% ($7,634,064) from the 4th quarter of 2018.
Russia’s exports to Afghanistan in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $41,361,702, up 20.67% ($7,085,268) from the 4th quarter of 2018.
Russia’s imports from Afghanistan in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $1,614,520, up 51.50% ($548,796) from the 4th quarter of 2018.
Russia’s trade surplus with Afghanistan in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $39,747,182, a 19.68% increase ($6,536,472) over the 4th quarter of 2018.
Afghanistan was Russia’s 106th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 113th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0239% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0189% in the 4th quarter of 2018).
Afghanistan was Russia’s 88th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 97th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0370% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0275% in the 4th quarter of 2018).
Afghanistan was Russia’s 126th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 128th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0024% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0017% in the 4th quarter of 2018).
Russia’s Exports to Afghanistan
The major share of Russian exports to Afghanistan in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 34.80% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (27.07% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.84% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (38.80% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 21.75% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (24.72% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.35% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (3.69% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.32% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (2.71% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $584,547;

- Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $319,761;
