Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Argentina was $234,217,029, down 29.05% ($95,919,775) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $33,990,955, down 61.64% ($54,617,103) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $200,226,074, down 17.10% ($41,302,672) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $166,235,119, a 8.71% increase ($13,314,431) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Argentina was Russia’s 68th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 65th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1302% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1767% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Argentina was Russia’s 92nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 82nd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0304% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0712% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Argentina was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 41st in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2943% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3874% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 74.88% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (75.87% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.76% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (19.55% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.02% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.25% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.07% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (1.43% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.46% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (0.24% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $638,242;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $541,473;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $161,329;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $134,329;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $102,227.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $41,778,814;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $12,928,095;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $700,069;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $186,807;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $156,740;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $147,304;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $143,781;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $114,821;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $109,254.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 91.40% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (93.91% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.50% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (3.29% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.77% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (1.40% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
