Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Ghana was $45,510,568, down 17.40% ($9,584,830) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $17,102,831, down 32.70% ($8,308,947) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $28,407,737, down 4.30% ($1,275,883) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $11,304,906, a 164.64% increase ($7,033,064) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Ghana was Russia’s 104th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 102nd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0253% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0295% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 107th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 106th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0153% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0204% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Ghana was Russia’s 85th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 86th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0418% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0476% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 50.65% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (6.30% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 30.30% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (71.03% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.34% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (15.63% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.61% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (2.37% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.87% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (3.61% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $949,697;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $238,686;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $203,416;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $77,968;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $77,907;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $57,348.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,767,709;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $663,277;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $239,452;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $137,367.
