Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Algeria was $339,129,471, down 53.30% ($387,018,257) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $335,792,425, down 53.58% ($387,533,024) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $3,337,046, up 18.24% ($514,767) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $332,455,379, a 53.86% decrease ($388,047,791) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Algeria was Russia’s 56th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2386% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4613% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Algeria was Russia’s 44th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 34th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3774% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.6930% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Algeria was Russia’s 113th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 111th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0063% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0053% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 20.05% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (7.04% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.05% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (10.41% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.08% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (9.38% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.68% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (20.86% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $22,166,590;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $18,181,960;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $16,704,753;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $2,829,920.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $115,017,389;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $26,215,121;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $22,413,236;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $12,076,925;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $6,000,952;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,229,387;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,075,696;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,601,980;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $1,300,240.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 11.88% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (16.52% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (8.94% in the 1st quarter of 2019).
