Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Australia was $195,066,756, down 6.40% ($13,328,106) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $24,266,472, down 27.87% ($9,377,163) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $170,800,284, down 2.26% ($3,950,943) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $146,533,812, a 3.85% increase ($5,426,220) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Australia was Russia’s 71st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 70th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1372% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1324% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Australia was Russia’s 93rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 92nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0273% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0322% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Australia was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 43rd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3213% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3294% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.24% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (32.53% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 26.48% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (25.03% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.29% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (26.50% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.14% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (6.88% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.41% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (2.90% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $424,749;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $389,955;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $110,582;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $100,603;
