Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $770,258,849, down 14.13% ($126,738,703) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $292,816,234, down 32.57% ($141,432,216) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $477,442,615, up 3.18% ($14,693,513) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $184,626,381, a 547.80% increase ($156,125,729) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Brazil was Russia’s 37th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 36th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.5419% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.5698% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 47th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 41st in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3291% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4160% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 23rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 26th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.8982% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8724% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 72.10% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (79.77% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.43% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (15.50% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.05% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.54% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.83% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.41% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.59% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.09% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,801,005;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $128,106,357;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $13,429,583;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $10,508,420;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,833,661;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - a decrease of $1,408,120.
