Russia’s Trade with Cyprus

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Cyprus was $122,940,786, down 58.90% ($176,151,296) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $118,981,828, down 60.01% ($178,512,590) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $3,958,958, up 147.80% ($2,361,294) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $115,022,870, a 61.13% decrease ($180,873,884) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Cyprus was Russia’s 80th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 62nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0865% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1900% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Cyprus was Russia’s 68th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 52nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1337% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2850% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Cyprus was Russia’s 108th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 125th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0074% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0030% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Cyprus

The major share of Russian exports to Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 81.79% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (83.08% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.30% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (3.85% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.28% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (2.77% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.22% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (3.87% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.95% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (5.18% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.76% of Russia’s total exports to Cyprus (0.98% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,633,254.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $148,761,104;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $11,903,756;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $7,887,314;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $6,357,864;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,488,084;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,088,583;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $781,612;
  • Zinc and articles thereof (HS code 79) - a decrease of $726,670.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.62% of Russia’s total imports from Cyprus (59.28% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
