Russia’s Trade with Ireland

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Ireland totaled $453,863,918, up 0.46% ($2,091,571) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $92,695,532, down 9.91% ($10,198,276) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $361,168,386, up 3.52% ($12,289,847) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $268,472,854, a 9.14% increase ($22,488,123) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Ireland was Russia’s 49th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 52nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3193% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2870% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Ireland was Russia’s 69th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 72nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1042% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0986% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Ireland was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.6794% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6577% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Ireland

The major share of Russian exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 74.88% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (60.15% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.19% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (26.79% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.89% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (2.92% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.87% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (7.19% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.55% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (1.32% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $7,529,797;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $635,231;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $464,291;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $441,033.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $11,633,207;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $4,082,255;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,190,063;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $691,785;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - a decrease of $361,975;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $348,277.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 67.53% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (70.66% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 19.44% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (18.09% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.76% of Russia’s total imports from Ireland (9.17% in the 1st quarter of 2019).
