Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Norway was $249,824,392, down 25.96% ($87,613,050) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $177,061,420, down 35.16% ($96,018,050) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $72,762,972, up 13.06% ($8,405,000) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $104,298,448, a 50.03% decrease ($104,423,050) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Norway was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 60th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1758% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2143% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Norway was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 53rd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1990% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2616% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Norway was Russia’s 65th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1369% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1213% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 37.18% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (56.70% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 29.95% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (18.61% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 19.12% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (15.85% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.65% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (3.15% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.44% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.79% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.41% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.84% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,706,995;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,089,329;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $722,823;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $672,805;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $663,814.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - a decrease of $1,913,783;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,245,242;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $941,634;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $846,277;
