Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Portugal was $179,504,028, down 38.83% ($113,927,486) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $63,802,773, down 62.33% ($105,560,992) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $115,701,255, down 6.74% ($8,366,494) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Portugal went from a surplus of $45,296,016 in the 1st quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $51,898,482 in the 1st quarter of 2020.

Portugal was Russia’s 75th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 63rd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1263% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1864% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Portugal was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 62nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0717% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1623% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Portugal was Russia’s 56th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 54th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2177% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2339% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 57.25% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (85.80% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.24% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (3.15% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.68% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (4.27% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.68% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (5.14% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.30% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.32% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.28% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.13% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $6,276,014;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $501,376;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $351,108;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $337,519.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $108,750,590;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,303,402;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,175,995;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,020,628;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - a decrease of $742,985.

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 24.87% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (21.23% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 16.12% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (13.39% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.08% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (17.36% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
