Russia’s Trade with Sudan

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Sudan totaled $88,323,085, up 14.57% ($11,231,476) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $88,117,094, up 14.41% ($11,096,284) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $205,991, up 190.95% ($135,192) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $87,911,103, a 14.24% increase ($10,961,092) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Sudan was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 84th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0621% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0490% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Sudan was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 75th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0990% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0738% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Sudan was Russia’s 140th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 156th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0004% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0001% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Sudan

The major share of Russian exports to Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 94.25% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (92.98% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.06% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (0.59% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.45% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (3.01% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $12,794,525;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $898,774;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $269,994.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $1,883,485;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $1,242,066;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $363,151.
