Russia’s Trade with Thailand

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Thailand was $447,960,045, down 29.55% ($187,893,702) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $63,206,164, down 73.70% ($177,086,574) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $384,753,881, down 2.73% ($10,807,128) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $321,547,717, a 107.09% increase ($166,279,446) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Thailand was Russia’s 50th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3152% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4039% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Thailand was Russia’s 77th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 54th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0710% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2302% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Thailand was Russia’s 29th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7238% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.7457% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Thailand

The major share of Russian exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 40.09% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (10.62% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 22.99% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (35.20% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.37% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (14.24% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.58% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (1.27% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $688,709;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $445,636;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $20,010,829;

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $3,130,661;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,339,192;

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $773,241;

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.42% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (9.83% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
