Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Vietnam totaled $1,124,178,603, up 9.07% ($93,528,607) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $265,010,628, up 75.34% ($113,868,060) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $859,167,975, down 2.31% ($20,339,453) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $594,157,347, a 18.43% decrease ($134,207,513) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Vietnam was Russia’s 25th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 31st in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7909% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6547% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Vietnam was Russia’s 51st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 66th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2978% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1448% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Vietnam was Russia’s 14th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 13th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.6163% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.6581% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 38.72% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (58.28% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 33.42% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (12.34% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.49% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (3.93% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.58% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (5.93% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.27% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (12.45% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.33% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (6.58% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $14,804,977;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,380,825;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $6,070,447;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $5,863,088;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $5,460,395;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,106,004;

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.56% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (12.82% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
