Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Egypt was $658,916,958, down 55.04% ($806,627,725) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $459,946,006, down 64.11% ($821,653,931) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $198,970,952, up 8.17% ($15,026,206) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $260,975,054, a 76.22% decrease ($836,680,137) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Egypt was Russia’s 35th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 23rd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.5401% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9155% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Egypt was Russia’s 28th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 19th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.6578% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.2719% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Egypt was Russia’s 41st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 48th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3820% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3101% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.95% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (14.72% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 30.88% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (20.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.33% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (6.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.57% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (5.88% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.13% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (8.27% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.56% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $26,877,253;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $15,403,227;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $11,315,185;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $6,457,834.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $90,465,842;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $62,466,302;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $41,673,595;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $38,609,686;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $29,517,547;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $21,746,547;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $19,770,276;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $15,018,341;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $9,975,760;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $7,376,293;

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.30% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (3.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.93% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (3.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
