Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $618,696,322, up 5.98% ($34,899,686) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $405,386,140, up 31.57% ($97,274,596) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $213,310,182, down 22.63% ($62,374,910) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $192,075,958, a 492.34% increase ($159,649,506) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Mexico was Russia’s 38th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.5071% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3647% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Mexico was Russia’s 37th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 48th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.5798% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3058% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 38th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.4095% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4647% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 76.33% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (72.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.99% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (20.79% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.48% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (3.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $86,779,087;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $28,964,871;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,382,159.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $16,452,755;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $3,510,779;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $2,051,556;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,628,230.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.85% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (8.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.72% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (13.27% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
