Russia’s Trade with Sudan

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Sudan totaled $47,585,868, up 33.30% ($11,888,010) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $47,578,778, up 33.66% ($11,981,505) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $7,090, down 92.95% ($93,495) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $47,571,688, a 34.02% increase ($12,075,000) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Sudan was Russia’s 97th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 103rd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0390% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0223% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sudan was Russia’s 81st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 92nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0680% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0353% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sudan was Russia’s 164th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 154th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0000% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0002% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Sudan

The major share of Russian exports to Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.86% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (65.31% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.70% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (3.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.70% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (9.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.52% of Russia’s total exports to Sudan (0.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $4,702,708;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $712,086;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $312,493;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $255,798.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $6,130,594;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $2,627,328;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $299,343;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $280,524;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $196,464;
  • Headgear and parts thereof (HS code 65) - a decrease of $142,815.

Russia’s Imports from Sudan

The major share of Russian imports from Sudan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 95.64% of Russia’s total imports from Sudan (60.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.32% of Russia’s total imports from Sudan (36.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.04% of Russia’s total imports from Sudan (1.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).
