Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Argentina was $223,650,124, down 26.30% ($79,806,920) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $20,209,044, down 80.35% ($82,647,263) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $203,441,080, up 1.42% ($2,840,343) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $183,232,036, a 87.46% increase ($85,487,606) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Argentina was Russia’s 65th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 62nd in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1638% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1829% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Argentina was Russia’s 103rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 75th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0257% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0995% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Argentina was Russia’s 42nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 44th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3513% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3207% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 70.53% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (27.03% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.27% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.13% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (0.97% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.12% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (1.58% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.53% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (65.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $644,225;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $255,120;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $235,549;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $230,159;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $122,700;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $79,525.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $65,128,301;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $12,994,995;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,448,040;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,445,848;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $984,766;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $554,637;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $297,502;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $210,960;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $103,922;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $84,917;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $68,000.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 89.02% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (93.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.53% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (2.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.91% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (3.55% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
