Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Australia was $183,505,310, down 10.61% ($21,780,242) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $33,306,278, down 11.56% ($4,352,505) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $150,199,032, down 10.40% ($17,427,737) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $116,892,754, a 10.06% decrease ($13,075,232) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Australia was Russia’s 70th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 71st in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1344% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1238% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Australia was Russia’s 94th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0423% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0364% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Australia was Russia’s 50th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 46th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2593% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2680% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Australia

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 36.05% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (29.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.60% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (42.80% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.14% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (8.46% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.16% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (9.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.79% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (4.96% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.04% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (3.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $745,119;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $469,599;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $199,773;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $186,152;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $166,974;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $166,416;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $136,352;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $119,926;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $102,594.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,339,145;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,337,913;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $960,677;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $533,474;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $234,255;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $109,890.
