Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $1,092,316,817, down 17.60% ($233,274,257) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $579,233,932, down 28.56% ($231,527,115) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $513,082,885, down 0.34% ($1,747,142) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $66,151,047, a 77.65% decrease ($229,779,973) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Brazil was Russia’s 25th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 24th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7998% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7992% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 26th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 29th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7364% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.7847% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 23rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 26th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.8859% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8231% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 76.73% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (81.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 11.81% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (13.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.46% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.27% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.35% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.33% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $24,439,267;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $5,693,665;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,799,213.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $213,005,444;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $32,479,359;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $4,829,790;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,518,512;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,391,045;
