Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Mongolia was $287,163,236, down 34.01% ($148,009,225) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $278,540,887, down 34.91% ($149,359,797) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $8,622,349, up 18.57% ($1,350,572) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $269,918,538, a 35.83% decrease ($150,710,369) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Mongolia was Russia’s 60th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 55th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2103% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2624% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Mongolia was Russia’s 45th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 41st in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3541% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4141% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Mongolia was Russia’s 99th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 101st in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0149% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0116% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.79% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (63.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 19.73% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (6.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 18.16% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (9.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.52% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (9.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.06% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (7.65% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $4,200,738;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,650,410;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $2,089,946;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,672,126;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,472,387;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $1,260,804;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $1,205,060;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $1,153,607.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $170,325,614;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $9,531,283;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $8,523,266;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $7,155,855;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,305,330;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $2,301,561;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $1,751,479;

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 15.33% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (23.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.41% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (2.45% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).
