Russia’s Trade with New Zealand

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with New Zealand totaled $92,185,470, up 21.22% ($16,135,446) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $37,579,167, up 29.59% ($8,581,716) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $54,606,303, up 16.05% ($7,553,730) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $17,027,136, a 5.69% decrease ($1,027,986) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

New Zealand was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 91st in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0675% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0458% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

New Zealand was Russia’s 89th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 103rd in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0478% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0281% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

New Zealand was Russia’s 71st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 74th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0943% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0752% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to New Zealand

The major share of Russian exports to New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 95.11% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (91.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.12% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.09% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.48% of Russia’s total exports to New Zealand (1.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $9,164,319;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $130,744.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $241,865;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $132,736.
