Russia’s Trade with Qatar

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Qatar totaled $21,567,848, up 23.44% ($4,096,089) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $12,541,802, up 83.71% ($5,714,881) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $9,026,046, down 15.21% ($1,618,792) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Qatar went from a deficit of $3,817,917 in the 3rd quarter of 2019, to a surplus of $3,515,756 in the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Qatar was Russia’s 120th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 135th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0158% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0105% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 117th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 132nd in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0159% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0066% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 96th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0156% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0170% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Qatar

The major share of Russian exports to Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 76.63% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (52.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 13.46% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (19.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.40% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (2.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (4.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.21% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (18.59% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (1.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $6,239,902;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $586,906;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $348,464;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $148,550;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $105,186;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $95,481;
  • Ceramic products (HS code 69) - an increase of $70,310;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $58,026;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - an increase of $51,176;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $50,519;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $38,951.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,025,395;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $383,620;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $217,901;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $152,977;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $113,319;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $75,434;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $61,881;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $43,493.

The major share of Russian imports from Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 65.04% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (62.77% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.87% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (37.05% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $369,215;
