Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $104,873,279, up 22.81% ($19,477,289) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $94,637,001, up 26.74% ($19,966,482) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $10,236,278, down 4.56% ($489,193) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $84,400,723, a 31.99% increase ($20,455,675) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Nigeria was Russia’s 86th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 83rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0679% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0601% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Nigeria was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 74th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1026% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0839% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Nigeria was Russia’s 96th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0164% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0202% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 65.04% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (8.00% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.96% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (32.05% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.60% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (18.45% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.51% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (20.09% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.63% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.36% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $43,746,184;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $11,484,318;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $603,315.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $9,415,592;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $8,831,084;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $4,945,011;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,281,440;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,077,666;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $456,478;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $390,342.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.13% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (96.16% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.40% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.43% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (3.80% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
