Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe was $7,380,290, down 6.78% ($536,561) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $594,361, up 1,931.31% ($565,101) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $6,785,929, down 13.97% ($1,101,662) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $6,191,568, a 21.21% decrease ($1,666,763) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 140th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 136th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0048% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0056% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 163rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 179th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0006% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0000% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 104th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 98th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0109% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0148% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 98.87% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (79.12% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (20.88% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $519,779;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $67,881;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $2,312.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $23,151.

Russia’s Imports from Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 100.00% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (99.59% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • No product groups with a substantial increase.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $949,579;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $76,803;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $68,505;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $28,076.
